Kevin became a member of SIR in 2002, following his first appearance in that summer’s production of Hamlet. Since then, he has been privileged to play a wide variety of Shakespeare’s roles (from ‘Romeo’ to ‘Juliet’), and was fortunate enough to have directed 2010’s The Merry Wives of Windsor for SIR. He has also developed for SIR a stage adaptation of Geoffrey Trease’s novel Cue For Treason, which he hopes to see produced within his lifetime.
Beyond his commitments to SIR (which have included serving as Artistic Co-Chair since 2008), Kevin has kept busy as a performer, writer, director and producer of theatre throughout Winnipeg. In 2002, Kevin’s first work as a playwright Aftertaste was honoured with the ‘Harry S. Rintoul Award for Best New Manitoba Play at the Winnipeg Fringe”, and his first full-length play Bleeding Hearts was produced by the Manitoba Theatre Centre at the Tom Hendry Theatre in 2009. He was also recently honoured with the ‘Reg Skene Award for Emerging Artists’ for his work as a playwright. Non-SIR acting credits include Romeo and Juliet (RMTC); Death of a Salesman (WJT); Annie (Rainbow Stage); Peter Pan (Rainbow Stage and MTYP); Follies (Dry Cold); Till It Hurts (PTE); John and Beatrice (TPM); and The Cherry Orchard (Theatre By The River).
Kevin is particularly proud to have collaborated on several popular and acclaimed productions with his life partner Charlene Van Buekenhout and her company Echo Theatre, including: Dr. Kellog’s System; Lulu: A Monster Tragedy; The Twits; Jumpers; Le Grand-Guignol Sur La Prairie; The Skriker; and the world premiere of The Missadventurous Perils of Pauline.
